Staying in Antigua: Antigua resorts, hotels

Flights

Antigua is a four-hour flight from New York, or three-hour from Miami.

American Airlines, Continental Airlines,  Delta, US Air and Air Canada all offer flights from North America to Antigua’s V.C. Bird International Airport.  That's one of the great things about Antigua: the large airport (it was built as a US World War Two airforce base) allows larger planes from mainland US and from Europe to land easily.

In 2005, Antigua broke ground on a new modern, main concourse for the airport to be completed in 2005.

Taxis

Taxis are available throughout Antigua. Fares between the airport, harbor, and many hotels are fixed and can be obtained at the airport or hotels. From the airport to St. John’s, a taxi fare is $7, to the Nelsons Dockyard it’s $21.

Taxi drivers are also qualified as tour guides for sightseeing trips. Tour rates can be obtained through hotels.

Rental Cars

Renting a car is the best way to see all of Antigua. You must have a valid driver’s license and then obtain a local permit through the rental agency, which will cost $20. The average daily fee for a car is $40-50. Remember to drive on the left.
